17.09.2013 // Natura Algarve

The Portuguese magazine Evasões went in search of the treasures of the coast of the Algarve and found 10 treasures of the coast of the Algarve that you should visit.

One of the them is Culatra Island in the Ria Formosa Nature Park.

A nice suggestion to visit this treasure of the coastline of the Algarve is doing a boat trip in the Ria Formosa where besides discovering this unique protected area you can also visit this beautiful island.

Culatra Island has several miles of beach and 3 settlements: Culatra, Hangares and Farol (portuguese for Lighthouse).

Culatra has 1000 inhabitants and is one of the most important fishing communities in the Eastern Algarve where the main economic activities are fishing and shellfish farming.

Hangares in still know today for  its historical importance in the anti-submarine defence during WW1 and Farol is probably the most popular area of the Island, regardless of its beauty.

Visit the Ria Formosa Nature Park on one of our boat trips (more info here ») and discover 1 of 10 treasures of the coast of the Algarve.

Boat trips are available everyday all year round with departures from the Marina of Olhão.
