The lake system of Ria Formosa is formed by five “barrier-islands”:
Explore three of these islands and discover their stories, culture and characteristics.
The first stop will be in Barreta Island; uninhabited and used by local fisherman to keep their fishing nets and tools…
Take a walk along its long white sand seashores and collect thousands of different sea and pebbles. We invite you to continue our trip and to our next stop: Culatra Island. Walk to the lighthouse in the small community of Farol and take a dive in the crystal clear water of the southernmost beach in Portugal. Continue aboard our boat. Learn about Hangares in Culatra Island and its historical importance in the anti-submarine defence during WW1. On our return you’ll go past Armona Island, and the Natural Park of Ria Formosa Head Court.
