Ria Formosa is recognized for its biodiversity and ecological significance and is considered an IBA (learn more about the portuguese IBAs here). It has a unique environmental condition that allows for the breeding of numerous bird species. The Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (BirdLife International) has identified the following species that can be found in this area:

• Common redshank
• Eurasian curlew
• Bar-tailed godwit
• Kentish plover
• Pied avocet
• Eurasian spoonbill
• Greater flamingo
• White stork
• Little tern
• Grey heron
• Audouin´s gull
• Golden plover
• Caspian tern

On this fantastic boat tour Natura Algarve gives you the opportunity to observe many different bird species of the Ria Formosa and when on the islands we will take walks filled with unique odors, tastes and landscape. We sail on the secondary and shallow channels with our electric engine on the front of the boat. This allows us to approach the birds in silence and therefore not disturbing them.
